Content updated:
A resin-bonded abrasive cutting disc and a metal-bonded diamond saw blade are different tools. They should be selected by their marked application and machine requirements, not treated as substitutes because both are circular.
Resin-bonded abrasive discs generally wear through their abrasive body. Common diamond construction blades use a supporting core and a diamond-bearing rim or segments. There are also specialised diamond tools with other bond systems, so the full specification matters.
Metal-cutting abrasive discs, masonry discs and tile blades have different application ratings. A tool approved for one material may be unsuitable for another. Check the label and instructions for the exact disc.
Compare acceptable completed work, finish and replacement frequency under the same approved conditions. Include compatibility, handling and storage requirements in the purchasing decision.
Start with the exact marked application. The table separates identification questions and is not a universal interchangeability chart.
| Question | Resin-bonded abrasive disc | Diamond construction blade |
|---|---|---|
| What identifies it? | Disc type and application marking | Model, working rim and application marking |
| What must fit? | Machine and approved mounting | Machine and approved mounting |
| What is compared? | Accepted work and replacement record | Accepted work and replacement record |
| What cannot be assumed? | Suitability from colour or shape | Suitability from diamond content alone |
Keep the disc category on the enquiry and test record. This avoids comparing prices for different tools as though they were equivalent products.
